#BeautyDiaries: I Haven’t Waxed In 4 Years And Never Looked Back

By Manavi Siddhanti

It's true.

I don't remember the last time I went to the salon to wax my legs.

I shave with coconut oil.

That's right. I use coconut oil instead of a shaving gel.

Shaving With Coconut Oil - A Happy Accident

Just like anyone else, I too, have grown up with a staple blue bottle of coconut oil in our homes. After all, it was one of the frontrunners when it came to my waist-long hair. But using coconut oil to shave my legs was just a happy accident.

I was working on a story when I realised that coconut oil is THE BEST shaving agent there’ll ever be. To think about, coconut oil has linoleic acid, an Omega-6 acid which is also anti-inflammatory in nature. Not only is it super hydrating but since it's antibacterial, it's great for nicks and cuts too.

So how do you shave using coconut oil?

Your Step By Step Guide To Using Coconut Oil For Shaving

1. It's probably best to get a good scrub on before you shave your arms or legs. Use any granular scrub (you can even make your own sugar scrub) to make sure to get a close shave.

2. Keep a washcloth handy. It's also best to check your blade. If it's old, it's only going to take you more time and effort to get a good shave.

3. Apply coconut oil liberally onto your arms/legs.

4. Shave against the grain. Unlike foam when you can't see much, the oil is clear, making it easier for you to shave.

5. Keep rinsing your blade to avoid build-up.

6. Pat your legs arms/legs with a dry washcloth gently. I usually jump in for a shower after a shave but you can just wash it off with lukewarm water if needed.

Remember since you shaved with coconut oil, your skin will be super soft so you don't have to apply a moisturiser.

If for some reason, I'm not able to use coconut oil as a shaving agent, I use it afterwards just so any cuts don’t lead to infections!

Remember, it also soothes burns. So if you get a cut or a razor burn, swab a bit of coconut oil and you should be good to go.

Will you ever try using coconut oil to shave your legs?
